Cellgevity, Glutathione And Chronic Pain

May 19 2012

Chronic pain – defined – is recurrent and long lasting .  It can continue for months or- as is often the case – for years.  Chronic pain isn’t the the immediate pain you feel when you’re injured . The fact is that if you severely twist an ankle when you’re out running , it’s going to hurt the for a while .  Pain is your body’s way of alerting you that something’s physically wrong. For most sprains and twists , the pain you feel the next day is from the inflammation caused in the cells .

In that sense , the immediate pain and chronic pain have something in common . That commonality   is inflammation.  Inflammation is frequently common chronic condition that lots of people suffer from even if we aren’t aware of it. But if the result of the inflammation is pain, we notice it .

Inflammation is often caused by the chain reaction of free radical damage in our cells.  One explanation for the unchecked damage is a shortage of

Cellgevity, Antioxidant Foods And Heart Disease

May 19 2012

Cardiovascular   illness isn’t caused by one cause and so it’s not accurate to say that one answer will work for everyone.  And in fact, some circumstances could be completely out of your control. But, it’s still a good concept to made whatever improvements you can to help your health . For one thing – we know that oxyradical damage to the cells can build up and left untreated lead to damaging the heart and cardiovascular system.  Science has demonstrated that antioxidants can destroy free radicals and stop that damage. So, will taking antioxidant supplements  combat heart disease?

Up until now, no one is certain . Antioxidant vitamin E supplements , for one , haven’t been shown to reduce the likelihood of stroke, heart disease, or other cardiovascular problems . While the supplement may contain antioxidants, they don’t seem to help.

Antioxidants are also available from beta carotene supplements , but doctors agree  excessive amounts of beta carotene is not a good thing . It can instead cause an increase  in cardiovascular and other heart issues and diseases So mega dosing beta carotene in order to inject anti oxidants into your body to combat heart and/or cardiovascular issues is -you’ll agree- a lousy idea.

The best route appears to stem from consuming foods rich in antioxidants.

Fruits, whole grain foods and vegetables that contain antioxidants have been proven to decrease the likelihood of heart disease.  To help lower your risk of cardiovascular diseases, you might need to modify your diet to include some of the most richly concentrated antioxidant foods like – dried beans – red, kidney and pinto ; wild blueberries; other berries like cultivated blueberries

Inflammation, Agony And The Invulnerable System

May 16 2012

Inflammation can be painful. Actually, it’s a part of the process by which your body’s immune systems protect us from infection and foreign substances like toxins, bacteria and viruses . But , in auto immune diseases, the defense system inappropriately triggers inflammation when there are no foreign substances to fight off and creates damage to its own tissues and organs. Your body assaults regular tissues as if they are infected or contaminated . When inflammation happens , chemicals from the body’s white blood cells are released into the blood and/or affected tissues in an effort to purge the body of foreign toxins . This release of chemicals adds to the flow of blood to the immediate area and often creates swelling, warmth and redness . Unfortunately , inflammation may stimulate nerves and create a lot of pain.

Arthritis is a well known term that describes joint inflammation . Some, but not all, types of arthritis are the result of out of control inflammation. Some types of inflammatory arthritis include:rheumatoid arthritis, Shoulder tendinitis or bursitis and Gout .

While you often won’t have them all , the basic symptoms of inflammation are swelling, redness, pain and stiffness and a loss of function in the joint Another thing- , Inflammation may also be connected with general “flu-like” signs like – feeling chilled or feverishness tiredsness and a loss of energy, headaches, lack of appetite and muscle stiffness.

Although the immediate pain caused because of inflammation is bad enough, the increased number of cells and inflammatory substances – in the long term damaging the cartilage (cushions at the end of bones) and joint lining. Inflammation can also be a problem for organs. The type

When Free Radicals Are Actually The Good Guys

May 15 2012

I find the most challenging things to understand about health and how your body functions, is that everything has a purpose and although some things like reactive oxygen species can be undesirable, they are also totally necessary.

The trouble lies in how our lives and our environment have changed much more rapidly than we can keep up with. Think about something as straightforward as our consumption of grains. You know, grains like corn, rice and wheat? Most people accept that we evolved to eat them, but that’s not the situation. Our cells and basic digestive needs haven’t advanced since our cavemen – hunter/gatherer roots and hunter gatherers were not farmers. Although we’ve been consuming bread for thousands of years, there are quite a few scientists and nutritionists who will claim that really -such foods don’t fit with our design.

So, if we haven’t changed enough to eat the crops we’ve been farming for thousands of years, just ponder how our bodies (at the cellular level) are responding to factors like smoking, booze, air pollution, drugs and the chemicals that have routinely become included in our foods.

The answer is”not well!”

Now think about free radicals which are also known as ROS or Reactive Oxygen Species – well before we gained so many new environmental sources of ROS, they were created by our bodies as a normal byproduct of our metabolic and immune processes AND we had the inherent ability to stay in control of them. Now, that’s altered and for many people it’s very important to boost our antioxidants to control the damage that can be caused by all the ROS that our lifestyles have inflicted on our bodies. That’s the reason for all the talk about antioxidants, but there is
